What is Child Dedication?
We believe that children are a gift from God and we’re excited that you are investigating child dedication. Child dedication is a ceremony held on a specific Sunday morning in which believing parents make a commitment to raise their child according to God’s word and Gods’ way. This is also an opportunity to thank God for the precious gift of your child (Psalm 127) and to publicly declare your intentions to raise your child in a Christian home. It is a time when your church family commits itself to prayerfully and actively support you in your role to raise your child up in God’s way.
In the book of Deuteronomy God has given us some very specific instructions in raising children. The word “Deuteronomy” means “repetition of the law”. Throughout Deuteronomy Moses is repeating the basic will and commands of God to the Israelites. If you were to read the entire book it would sound like a broken record. But…please read Deuteronomy 6 as it highlights many of God’s commands for parents. Deuteronomy 6 makes it clear that parents are primarily responsible for the spiritual care of their children.
Baby/child dedication is just the beginning of a life long journey you are going to take with your child. We, as your church family, look forward to partnering with you to raise a child who loves and serves Jesus! Thank you for allowing us this privilege.
